A wee Scott Monument moment…

ScottMonumentThe Scott Monument in Edinburgh’s city centre, looking splendid as ever in the spring sunshine.

A passing sketch of the stunning Scott Monument for you today.  The Victorian Gothic structure stands in Princes Street Gardens as a monument to author Sir Walter Scott.

A statue of the writer and his dog, stands underneath the tower, which is the largest monument for any writer anywhere in the world. Look out for them next time you are in town and climb the 287 steps to the top and you will enjoy an breath taking views of the city.

Inspirational running

RunnerQuote
I sketched this runner on Arthur’s Seat this morning, the park near Holyrood House Palace in Edinburgh.

It was a real speed sketch moment, one I would of once upon a time reached for the camera I now pull out the pad and pen and start scribbling away.

The runner made a great silhouette, racing up the side of the hill then back down again, repeating this an impressive number of times. I think I moved on before he stopped. Although it was nippy in the park when standing still.

The quote is from Steve Prefontaine, an American middle and long-distance runner who competed in the 1972 Olympics.

Time for a tin of sweets

QualityStreetWe are now into the season of big tins of sweeties, but which is your favourite, Rosies, Celebrations or Quality Street?

I asked last night on facebook which I should choose and QS came out on top, thankfully as they are my favourites too. Although with ten days still to go before the big day I’m sure we could get Mrs Sketchers choice of Rosies too 🙂

Now for a Sunday wintry walk in the park to work off those treats!

The WhereArtI sketch quiz

WAI74
Good morning Edinburgh, you may have trouble seeing this building today thanks to the Haar currently in Edinburgh. But does anyone recognise it through the fog?

There is another fabulous prize up for grabs this week with WhereArtI, a decopatch kit from the lovely people at Kiss the Fish Studios. All you have to do to win is be the first to tell me the name of this Edinburgh building I’ve sketched…

Colour on the Scottish National Gallery

ScottishNationalGalleryThis morning I stopped on Princes Street to sketch this scene of the colourfully decorated Scottish National Gallery. The sun was strong as I drew, first in pencil then in watercolour, my paint pallet drying in the heat (believe it or not!).

No pens today

The lack of a pen on this sketch is a little unusual for me and I think results in a ghostly image. What do you think?

The pillars of the Scottish National Gallery are covered in bright vivid colours to promote the Peter Doig exhibition currently on inside, and they look fantastic.
