Apex sketching to celebrate

A couple of watercolour paintings to mark the Apex chain of hotels becoming 25 years old.

From 1996 to 2021 the Apex hotels group have grown to 10 hotels around the UK, from the Grassmarket in Edinburgh to their latest with in the city of Bath.

To mark the achievement I was asked to draw a couple of scenes from one of their London hotels, the Apex Temple Court Hotel.

It is always an honour to be asked to use my style to capture a beautiful building, and always interesting to see where the client might use the image once drawn. For instance this could be used on brochures, advertising materials and even wall paper or draw linings as one of my pieces was used once in the past.

If you would like to discuss my corporate packages and rights to use my sketches for your busing then drop me a line at contact@www.edinburghsketcher.com

A trip to London

Last week the Sketcher Clan took a trip around the UK, including a day in London.

We drove down through the UK stopping off to see friends and family with the destination of Legoland and a day in London.

With so much packed in the 10 days are now a blur of fun and family time. There wasn’t much time to sketch but in London’s South bank I did get 30 minutes with my daughter to sketch this iconic skyline.

Its amazing to see these huge, beautiful structures in real life, and I will remember sitting there with Zoe in the late afternoon sunshine for a long time.

I will include my daughters sketch once she is happy it is finished!!

An inspirational garden supported by Jo Malone

JoM_GardenJoM_RoundhouseJo Malone London and the Scottish Association for Mental Health have created a new herb garden and roundhouse within Redhall Walled Garden in Edinburgh.

Personally I know how working outdoors can be great for your health, and your overall well being. I love to sketch in the great outdoors, to break free from the computer screen and breathe in fresh air and fresh perspective. So it makes sense to me that gardening can be good for the soul too.

That’s the theory behind Redhall Walled Garden in Edinburgh’s Slateford area. A beautiful 18th Century Walled Garden within a 6 acre estate where the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) offers training in horticulture, conservation, maintenance skills, ITC/admin and life skills for people with mental health problems.

I was there for the opening yesterday and was blown away by the good work which goes on within the garden and the beauty of a place I have not been before. I love that Edinburgh and the people of Edinburgh continue to surprise in this way. It is wonderful that Jo Malone have chosen to invest and work with SAMH to help create a wonderfully peaceful place in the city.
