Sketching from nature soothes the soul
Lauriston Castle workshops provide a moment of calm sketching in the sunshine.
Lauriston Castle is a grand home from another time, with collections of furniture, ceramics and art from the Scottish Edwardian wealthy middle class. Surrounded by woodlands and with fantastic views over the Firth of Forth it is the perfect peaceful getaway location still close to the city centre.
And it is proving a popular place for my sketching workshops this summer. Looking at the details and the colours in the leaves and the sculpture as we walk around the substantial grounds which is run by Edinburgh Council and the grounds are open daily for a lovely walk with great views. And there is also a place for coffee and cake run by Mimi’s Bakehouse.
My next visit on the morning of Sunday 18th August has now sold out so I have opened a second one in the afternoon so if you would like to come along then book a ticket via the link below. Prices are £30 per person which includes all materials for the 2.5 hour workshop and if you bring a friend it is 2 for £50 as sketching is such a relaxing thing to do together.
I look forward to heading back to Lauriston in August but that is not the only workshop location next month. I have a workshop in the New Town of Edinburgh with Arienas Collective who run a number of creative activities from their stunning West End home.
My next one is on the morning of Thursday 23rd August where I will be focusing on perspective and heading up to Thistle Street to sketch the lines and markers that help me create my fast drawings. To find out more and book you r place early follow the link below.
Start your week with a quiz
Don’t forget Monday morning’s WhereArtI will be here at 8am tomorrow morning. Each week if you can name the location I sketch then you go into the hat for a lovely piece of Edinburgh Sketcher merchandise. This week the prize is a castle tea towel. You can also see if you know any of the previous weeks sketches on the WhereArtI Quiz page.
