One of the best things about sketching at weddings is finding new locations around the country to draw, whether that be hidden castles and stately homes or coastal towns with stunning views.
I had never been to Port Glasgow until this weekend and it is a lovely town on a hill overlooking the River Clyde just 20 miles from Glasgow centre. The town has an impressive past as the centre of ship building in the 19th Century and these huge steel sculptures of two shipbuilders hark back to those days.
Created by sculptor John McKenna they look great shining in the sun and I had to make a detour to sketch them as they reminded me of the Kelpies I visited last week. I am no the only one who sees the resemblance either as the shipbuilders have been given the nickname ‘The Skelpies’.
