This morning I had a delivery of six huge sketches for an office through in Uddingston near Glasgow. So I thought to break up the journey back to Edinburgh I would make a stop at the Helix centre and say hello to the Kelpies, two huge sculptures by Scottish artist Andy Scott.
At 30 metres high the Kelpies are the largest equine sculptures in the world and can be seen from the M9 motorway which you would take from Edinburgh to Stirling. The Helix Park which sits between Grangemouth and Falkirk also has an adventure play park, a cafe and gift shop plus lovely walks along the canal.
I just love to sit beneath the huge horses and marvel at their scale and construction. They are also fab to sketch, so much detail and great big curves to try and capture. Plus lots of shiny bits and shadows. Next time you are there have a go at sketching one or the other and let me know how you get on. Below are a couple of progress photos from my afternoon.
