March ing ahead with new real mail plans
My new original postcards from Edinburgh start going out next month.
Postcard Art
Would you like to receive an original watercolour sketch each month from Edinburgh? Along with a personal note about how I am getting on and what is happening in the city. I am starting a mail art subscription as a way of sharing my doodles and goings on from Edinburgh. I love drawing and capturing the random moments, eye catching views and architectural details as I go about my day and a long with a few words about the weather or the sounds and the feelings as I draw they make a lovely page in my journal.
So I thought maybe others would like to see them in person as a sketch in your hand is worth two on the screen or something like that. I just like to feel the paper, the indents when pen and pencil have pressed and it is these books and notes that always intrigue me in galleries, more than the finished pieces in frames.
I also love receiving postcards and mail in my hand, again the textures and touch as if handing over directly from you to me means so much more than a ping on the screen.
If you feel the same then you can sign up as a Watercolour Postcard Supporter and for £30 a month (which includes postage) you will receive an original watercolour drawing at the beginning of each month plus a handwritten note direct to your door. You will also receive a blank watercolour postcard which you can then create a drawing on and send to anyone you like. Starting a chain of art mail!
You could also send your masterpieces back to me, maybe I will start a gallery on here of subscribers postcard creations. Yes, I like that idea! Okay, keep sketching and noticing the beauty in the every day. Cheers, Mark. ES
Mighty redwoods from little cones grow
One from a weekend trip to the Botanics. I’m afraid I pintched three fircones from the ground around the redwoods so I could sketch them later. Maybe I’ll grow one in the garden.
I didn’t have my sketchbook over the weekend but did find these watercolour postcards from Seawhite of Brighton and I am loving their constrictive shape
and sharp edges. These are the ones I will use for my new ESMailArt
The previous note of the redwood sketch (below) was on one too and this time I put the cones on a card to help show the shadow on the white ‘ground’. I am glad I included it in the sketch now.
We will be sketching for cones during my new longer workshops this summer at Lauriston Castle. See all the summers workshop locations and book a place via my Workshop Page.
Keep sketching and thanks for your support. More next month :) Mark. ES
PS here is an extra colourful one of Misty the cat…
