Old Town Angles

This view from Upper Bow through the railings and on to The Hub caught my eye this week.

A big part of making a sketch is picking the right perspective and angle of a scene. Something I maybe picked up while at art college studying photography.#

And maybe come to think of it that is why I like double yellow lines so much! The way they can lead the viewers eye into a photo, or drawing. It helps tell a story or create more interest in the scene if your eye is led around.

Earlier this week I took a walk through the city to capture some photos of scenes like this, noticing new angles and views through streets I have walked along so many times.

Just like this view of The Hub venue through the railings of Upper Bow, as I walked up from Victoria Street onto Castle Hill. Beauty in the everyday 🙂

Icy reflections

This mornings warm yup sketch is a view up Dundas street using my fountain pen and a postcard.

This mornings #mindfulsketching and a little warm up from the car. Reflections from the rising sun and braking traffic leads up to the mound and the spire of the Hub in the distance.

Using a fountain pen again today and the trouble with that is how the watercolour can make the ink run.

Although I quite like the blurred effect, once I learn to let go of the control and go with the flow 🙂

At The Hub

After my first official sketch blog, currently under wraps until it has appeared on the Edinburgh International Festival website, I am very excited about returning to the Usher Hall for Friday night’s London Symphony Orchestra 02. This time I will be accompanied by Mrs Sketcher so we’ll make a night of it, lets hope the rain stays away and we can have a wander, soaking up the wonderful festival atmosphere currently in Edinburgh.

But first I had to hot tail it up to The Hub near the top of The Royal Mile to pick up our tickets. Currently the building is the nerve centre of all Edinburgh International Festival activities. Definitely the place to go to find out more about what’s available to see in the next few weeks in Edinburgh.
