I got a couple of hours last night to spend on my stitched sketch project, I’m still not sure whether it is going to turn out as I planned but it is now at least beginning to look more like one of my sketches.
In my previous post Stitched sketch: Day 1 I cut out and stuck down pieces of material to look like a well known Edinburgh view. Tonight I used the sewing machine to roughly sew around all the pieces. I was surprised how well the pritt stick had kept the pieces stuck down.
Once all the pieces were securely stitched down I could then start the fun part – trying to shade using the sewing machine. Only I ran out of time so I have only just started this on the monument on the left but you can get an idea of how it will come together using the stitched lines instead of my usual pen strokes.
I’ll upload more when I get chance to work on it again.
The first #WhereArtI of the new year and with it a brand new leaderboard to fill – you could be top of the list if you can tell me where in Edinburgh I’ve been sketching this week. Just tell me the name of the building above, there are three points for the first correct answer, two for second and one for third. Good luck, and all the best for 2013, oh and a very warm welcome to all the Scotsman readers who join us for our wee sketch quiz on the first Monday of every month.
Remember to include the hashtag #wherearti with your answers either below, on facebook or twitter and also to keep an eye on the ES facebook page and twitter for clues throughout the day.
Answers to come by this time tomorrow, and although for now the quiz is just for fun the first three correct answers will get a mention plus a link from my site for anyone who makes it onto the WhereArtI leaderboard.
For the time being WhereArtI? is just for fun, but if you would like your business to appear in the sketch, sponsor the quiz or supply a prize then please get in touch.
Morning Edinburgh lovers, here is your weekly fix of scribbling fun… just name this well known building in Edinburgh. It’s the tall structure in the middle I’m wanting identified, let me know in the usual way…
Clues to come for those who need them on facebook and twitter. Remember to include the hashtag #wherearti with your answers either below, on facebook or twitter and also to keep an eye on the ES facebook page for clues throughout the day.

Okay, I give up. It is definitely too wet to sketch outdoors today.
I gave it a good try with this doodle in Trinity, Edinburgh. Huge drops of rain kept landing on the pad though, washing away my scribbles.
Welcome to another brand new week, and with it a spanking new WhereArtI quiz for you to ponder on the way in to the office. Take a look at my sketch and if you can, tell me where I was when I scibbled it down.

Evening all. I had a little time on my hands last night so sketched this pencil drawing of my wee girl, Zoe.
It’s to go with this one I did of James last week: I think they’ll look nice framed together, what do you think?
Sketching with the twins this morning, we have a new pad and big fat wax crayons, which appear to be quite tasty to 14 month old twins! This is James’ and Daddy’s hand outlines.
Morning sketch fans, here is another puzzle for you, where was this sketch done?
I hope to make this a weekly feature, the only rule is they will all be within Edinburgh City. I have still to settle on a name though, I had wanted something to tie in with the day of the week, like ‘Saturday sketch search’ or something, any ideas? Perhaps ‘Wednesday’s where art I?’ – thanks to @daisystreet for helping with that one.
So this is the first – any ideas? My wife has just informed me this could be anywhere as there are lots of Lion Ramparts throughout the city, so you may need clues later. But lets see first, this particular one is quite new, very shiney and gold in colour.
This is Rubie, a commission I started last night. It’s early days and so far just rough in pencil but I hope to ink over it later. I’m planning on doing more pet portraits in my mono lined style.
I just thought I’d share 😉
