Snow is falling… in Granton

SnowInGrantonI’m a little late to the office today as I just had to sketch the snow falling in Granton this morning.

Huge flakes and lots of them fell as the Sketcher family tucked into their breakfast. The toddler twins were amazed, excited and then a little disappointed as it is was all melting away!

Not to worry I said, I’m sure there is plenty more on it’s way.

TIP: The trick to sketching snow in pen (without pencil first) is to draw the snow before anything else, add all the snow flakes and then build the picture behind.

Have a good day across the capital everyone wrap up warm and take care on the roads 🙂 See the link below for the latest weather in Edinburgh.

The WhereArtI Quiz, 27th October

WAI_271014Morning Edinburgh, I hope I haven’t confused you by reverting to the original 8 o’clock slot on the day after the clocks went back. I originally started WhereArtI for the commuters of Edinburgh so 8am suits better than 10. Anyhoo, can you locate this sketch??

Apple picking time in Edinburgh

Apple_PrincesStreetOne week from now, at 10am on Saturday 18th October the Edinburgh Apple store will open on Princes Street.

Situated opposite The Balmoral Hotel at the East end of Princes Street, the prestigious shop will finally open its doors after being clad in branded boarding for the past few months.

Eagerly anticipated the opening is hoped to spark a retail boom in the city centre. Expect the queuing and camping around the entrance to begin soon.

Neighbours divided as Scotland goes to the polls

DividedNeighboursOn the eve of Scotland’s Independence Referendum Edinburgh neighbours find themselves on opposing sides of the political fence.

With less than fifteen hours to go before Scotland’s residents begin vote on whether or not Scotland splits from the rest of United Kingdom and becomes an independent country the result looks set to be very close.

As you walk through Edinburgh it’s people, cars, windows and work places are plastered with either ‘Yes’ or ‘No thanks’ stickers. With passions running high on both sides and a record 97% of the electorate expected to vote it has been hard to have a conversation lately without discussing the possible outcomes of Friday’s decision.

From speaking to supporters on both sides the common thread is that everyone wants the best for Scotland, so whichever outcome we get on Friday morning lets hope that is what we get.

Sketching an Indyref debate at the Devil’s Advocate

DA_FullRoomLast night I entered the Indyref debate as an event sketcher for The Devil’s Advocate bar in Edinburgh’s old town.

I stood in their candle lit mezzanine dinning area surrounded by invited politicians, scientists, writers, creatives and curators, listening to their passionate conversations, opinions and theories about this most exciting of times in Scotland.

Here are my sketches from an interesting evening in Edinburgh’s historic old town.
