Foodies Festival descends on Inverleith Park once again

foodies2017
The tents are beginning to be erected ahead of this weekends food festival in Edinburgh’s Inverleith Park.

I cycled through the park on Tuesday and noticed preparations had begun to transform the park which lies just over the road from the Botanical Gardens of Edinburgh. I stopped to draw this sketch of the busy workers and the city, and Arthurs Seat in the distance.

Its a great location for the festival and an nice walk from Edinburgh centre through Stockbridge so be sure to head down the hill this weekend to see (and sample!!) the many food and drink stalls showing their wares.

The festival runs on Friday 4th (11am-7pm), Saturday 5th (10am-8pm) and Sunday 6th August (10am-7pm).

There are cookery classes for young and old and appearances from celebrity chefs as well as local food and drink suppliers showing their produce. Its a great place to try something new and often meet the growers themselves.

For more information visit the Foodies Festival website below.

Thanks to the generous organisers I have 5 pairs of tickets to give away for the festival, simply leave your name as a comment below to go into the grand draw I am running on social media.

I will pick 5 random winners on Thursday morning and each will receive a pair of tickets. Due to lack of time the winners names will be put on the guest list to gain entrance so no physical tickets will the sent out.

This sketch was drawn on location in pen and watercolour.

Foodies Festival in Edinburgh 2014

FoodiesFestival2014If you are heading to Foodies Festival in Inverleith Park today you are in for a treat.

As I write this the rain has started in Edinburgh but hopefully it is just a wee shower and the sun will return for the final afternoon of this year’s Foodies Festival in Inverleith Park, in the north of Edinburgh.

I and the extended Sketcher family were there sitting in the sunshine enjoying the best of Scottish and UK produce, listening to live music and enjoying the relaxed and happy atmosphere which is always evident at the annual showcase for food and drink makers.

Here are my sketches from the day, a full table of food and empty dishes, the Edinburgh Gin tent (their raspberry flavour is very summery), the superb trestle tables which helped seat all the extra visitors this year, and a lovely bike sign for Market Deli crisps which were scrummy!

Foodies finale

FoodiesFestival2013a FoodiesFestival2013b FoodiesFestival2013cThe sketcher family had a great day at Foodies Festival, such a happy vibe around the place. The sun shone, most of the time, and the food and drink were excellent, as were the performers entertaining us on stage. My foodie highlight was a pulled pork sandwich (on gluten free bun) and some Sheppy’s West Country cider to wash it down. Perfick.

I managed three sketches in between the two downpours, and during in the last one. It was great to see all the family too and have a catch up over a drink and listening to some live music. Happy days.

Inverleith park

We went for a walk through the park today, the sun was shining and the sky was clear and blue.

Inverleith park is opposite the Botanics in Edinburgh and has a beautiful duck pond close to the Stockbridge exit of the park. My wife and I, along with the twins all wrapped up against the wind,  took a bag full of bread to feed the swans, ducks and seagulls that flock there.

Here is a quick (as it was a bit nippy and my fingers were going numb!) sketch of Joanne feeding the swans, a pen sketch with a little watercolour over the top.
