We had a creative Sunday recycling old magazines and making new artworks, including this textured highland cow.
I really enjoyed trying something new and having to think slightly differently as I sourced the colours from all the photos in a few magazines. We sat around pritt sticking our scraps in quiet concentration, great fun and I love the texture and colours I achieved on this illustration.
The trouble is though that now I quite like it then I think maybe I should do six Scottish animals and make a range of gift cards! Maybe a squirrel, a stag – what else?!
I recently boarded the Ness Bus tour from Edinburgh to Loch Ness and we made a pitstop near Callander to visit Scotland’s most famous Hairy Coo
If travelling up into Central Scotland you must visit Hamish, he is a Scottish institution and although he’s getting on a bit now, he still has all the majesty and beauty which made him so famous. Indeed, if you are looking at a postcard of a Highland Cow on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, chances are that cow is Hamish. He even has his own facebook page!
Visit him, and buy some food for him from the shop, at the Trossachs Wollen Mill in Kilmahog, just outside Callander.
A commission here for a client wanting to send a portrait back home to Canada. The boys are cousins and have strong Scottish roots, hense the Scottish elements in the image. Edinburgh Castle, the Cuilin Hills, a Highland cow and some heather all add up to give this portrait a definite Scottish twist.
At the time a drew the sketch I posted a close up, HERE it is.
Today I’ve been working on a commission for a friend. I didn’t want to post the whole picture as they haven’t seen it yet, plus it’s a gift and although it’s for someone overseas you know how small the world can be.
So here is a sneek preview, and as soon as I can I will upload the full image.
