An Edinburgh Institution

Vintage styles from fashion history, a great place for a little time travelling.

My latest #supportabusinesssketch is this beautiful shop front of Teviot Place, home to one of four W. Armstrong & Sons stores in the city.

I remember hanging out and meeting folk in the flagship Grassmarket store back in the 90s and with their four locations these vintage clothing stores will feature in many an Edinburgh dwellers story.

Do you remember visiting one of these stores in the past? If so do tell me below, I still love to pop in and see the amazing pieces they have on show.

Visit their website below to see all the locations and go say hello, let yourself drift into years gone by, and wonder which items from your wardrobe may be hanging in these stores one day!

So drop in if you are passing, and give a little back to the small businesses that are so important to Edinburgh. Also let me know by commenting below if you have a local trader who deserves a ‘sketch out’.

And if you would like to send a boost to your local independent business then make a sketch/drawing or painting and post it online with the hashtag #supportabusinesssketch

A Book Festival Sketch

A trip to the festival to see my book.

It was the last weekend of Edinburgh International Book Festival and my family and I made it along to soak up the atmosphere, sketch the new location and see MY BOOK INSIDE 🤩🤣👍

I was so pleased to hear my illustrated picture book created with author Scott Coull (all about a family’s holiday in St Andrews and their love of ice cream) was on sale in the festival shop.

If you didn’t manage to see it there then you can buy a copy and help support my quest to create a sequel, here:

August workshop sketching

This week I have had a couple of workshops with Arienas Collective in the New Town.

It is great welcoming visitors to the city and on Sunday I was introducing a sketcher from New Mexico to Circus Lane, their first time seeing this iconic Edinburgh street.

I just love the curve of the cobbles as the pretty houses turn away into the distance. It is the perfect place to end my perspectives workshop.

It was a beautifully sunny day on Sunday, I do admit were a little creative with the sky for this one though 😉
