The perfect cinematic experience: superior comfort and a wonderful film

Odeon LuxeLast night Mrs Sketcher and I had a night out at the cinema, but no ordinary cinema – this was the new Odeon Luxe.

After a summer refurbishment the Odeon Wester Hailes has been reborn as a Odeon Luxe, with bags of room and reclining seats for everyone, plus a bar and coffee chain n the foyer.

The film picked for this opening was perfect, a modern take on classic blockbuster, Murder on The Orient Express which was full of action, beautiful landscapes, mystery and drama – an ideal cinematic experience when in such comfort!

A trip to town, sketchbook in hand

Costa George Street interior copy Yesterday I had a couple of meetings in town and drew from the bus ride into Edinburgh and a lunch break in a beautiful George Street building.

Following on from my previous post about spontaneous sketching I thought draw from my journey on the bus, and with what I had to hand: a pencil and small note book. Sketching on the bus is always a challenge, the constantly changing view, people getting off and on etc.

But on this occasion thanks to the construction site on Leith Street the number 14 bus was redirected along London Road, which gave me extra time to finish my scribble, below.

Between my first and second meetings I had lunch in Costa on George Street which is well worth a visit to see the wonderful ceiling dome at the back of the store. I believe this was converted from offices but if you know more about the history of this building then do let me know.

The top drawing was sketched in black fineliner and a little watercolour as I sipped my hot chocolate.

And now for something completely different

With the afternoon away from the office I took a trip into town with the twins. They opened their first bank account, receiving a story book and money box each for doing so.

After climbing the hill from Stockbridge, and before visiting the bank we stopped at Waterstones on George Street for some refreshment. There is a Costa to the back of the shop. We all had milk, mine with added shots of espresso.

This is a pencil sketch of the twins drinking their milk in the pram. I like the scribble effect, it looks almost ghostly. Very different from yesterdays Where Art I? sketch.
