In the world of sketching ‘time equals colour’. This cup of tea sketch I did this morning definitely benefits from a little watercolour wash, and thanks to that little bit of extra time thats exactly what it got. HERE is the original black and white version – what do you think?

Blue sky sketching
Today I sketched with a thicker pen, a marker almost. I thought it would make the result looser, more energetic and also force me into more confident strokes.
I like the effect, I imagine with a crowded street scene it would capture the movement and vibrancy, ideal for the festival in Edinburgh. Also it was much quicker, perfect for when time is precious (when isn’t it 🙂
The scene is Carlton Terrace, as the street curves around into Regent Terrace and towards Carlton Hill and Princes Street beyond.

Anstruther coloured
Here is my Anstruther pic from a couple of weekends ago, https://edinburghsketcher.com/?p=912 but this time with added watercolour.
I’m still having trouble finding time to add colour on location. I think I may try pencil crayons next, any ideas for more speedy mediums from fellow sketchers would be greatfully received!
