There is something about the old red telephone boxes that attracts the eye, especially when they get together. I remember staying in Kingston, Surrey and the only thing I remember about the rather drab town centre was this artwork by David Mach of telephone boxes lying on each other like dominoes.
The three I have drawn today are on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, and judging by the attention they received whilst I was there, they appear in many a tourist’s photo.
A cold night at Edinburgh’s Winter Wonderland. Thanks to Martin for the photo (here)
In full swing until Tuesday 4th January remember to wrap up warm if visiting the wonderland, and don’t forget the mulled wine on the German Market (which runs till Christmas Eve).
Spare a thought for the humble chair, it looks so sad and lonely, never complaining, always ready when called upon. Just waiting for a bum to warm it up. 🙂
A lack of time and inspiration today resulting in this 10 minute pencil sketch of a stone wall which runs along some steps. Ivy brushes the top, and a hand rail curves downwards.
Morning! Thanks to Martin for this great photo of Edinburgh’s Winter Wonderland from last night. Just an ink sketch here, but I’ll add colour later. Check out the original image here and you’ll see there is a great night sky, the helter skelter looking stunning all lit up. It should be a good challenge to try to capture.
I did try to post prezzies off to loved ones today, honest. But the queue at the post office just off the Royal Mile was massive, and not moving.
So I sketched the queue instead!
A visit to Edinburgh’s City Art Centre today and to Lizzie Farey’s willow exhibition, ‘Spirit of Air’.
Lizzie’s skilful manipulation of natural materials, most notably willow, produces beautiful images from rings and spheres to the stunning swallows you can see in my sketch. Head to the centre before March to see them in person.
