Does this need to be in red?
Here is one of the lovely post boxes in Edinburgh’s Old Town. I am liking the simple black and white but have strong urges to splash a little red across the page.
I need more time! Or a new way of getting colour in a hurry. Hmmm.
The plaque on the bench which gave me this view up the Royal Mile read:
‘Johnnie J Kerr, poet, song writer, entertainer. Citizen and lover of Edinburgh. Beloved by his many friends.’
It’s a great spot to sit for a while, for any lover of Edinburgh
A trip to Whitmuir Farm, the Organic Place yesterday. My sister and niece were up for the weekend and the sun was shining so we headed into the country.
With pigs, ducks, chickens, cows and a dog called Lilly it’s a great day out for all the family – and only 16 miles from Edinburgh.

A gorgeous spring day today in Edinburgh, the sun strong and warming on my back. And as if proof were needed of sunshine in Edinburgh here is my attempt to sketch my shadow, falling on an grassy hill.
Now back inside, the windy is a bit chilly!
Scott’s Monument on Princes Street, Edinburgh, as seen from the opposite side of Princes Street Gardens. Built between 1840 and 1846 to commemorate Sir Walter Scott, there are apparently 287 steps to the top, although I am embarrassed to say I haven’t trod a single one.
I’ll have to change that soon.
Scott’s dog, Maida is included in the sculpture at the base of the monument.
Popped into John Lewis for lunch today after the 36 week scan, all good by the way – so exciting.
We had a nice bit of cake for afters and a quick sketch of the monument on Calton Hill, I’m not sure what it’s called, but let me know if you do.
A trip down the coast today to North Berwick. The lovely seaside town was busy with families and dog walkers all wrapped up against the cold winds on the beach.
We stopped off at the Sealife Centre for a latte and shortbread, it was a bit too chilly for an ice-cream on the beach.
Same sketch different medium. A cleaner version of yesterdays drawing from Chambers street this uses just pen, black and a little red.
I traced over the sketch from yesterday and then rubbed out the pencil.
I see it’s another lovely Saturday, weather wise, in Edinburgh 😉
Sketches, news and family life in Scotland's capital city.
