This watercolour drawing is a beautiful building close to Edinburgh city centre, I’ve left the name off the front of the building but can you name the bar and restaurant on the ground floor?

Yesterday the family and I visited the Out of the Blue Drill Hall, our first visit to this former military building now arts centre in Leith.
Providing artists studios, rehearsal and performance areas, exhibition spaces and a cafe the space has a happy community feel, and is vital for Edinburgh’s art scene. We were there to see the Arts Market, which gives the artists of Out of the blue a chance to sell their creations and meet the public. There were some great illustrators on show, a couple I particularly liked were Jennifer Boxall-Gray‘s lovely birds, and Rosie Walters‘ cityscapes.
For the start of the Royal Jubilee weekend I’m uploading my bunting flags illustration. I’ve added a touch of colour to the sky which lifts the image a great deal. I couldn’t decide on the colours for the actual flags so I thought I’d leave it to the imagination.
This sketch can currently be seen in Tidalfire on St Mary’s Street as part of my three week long exhibition. Strong sunshine lighting the Cowgate today. It’s turning into a lovely afternoon, strong shadows make for good sketching.
I was back sketching on my lunch hour today so time wasn’t on my side, I hope it doesn’t show!

EdinburghSketcher prints will be on display and for sale at Tidalfire on St Mary’s Street, Edinburgh until 18th June 2012. Drop in to see my sketches framed and mounted and pick yourself a copy of your favourite for only £15. Also on display in the window a montage of sketches framed in an A2 sized mount.

Waiting for a bus on the North Bridge and this stinking bin is piled high with stubbed out cigarettes. There must be a couple still lit though as it’s still smoking 🙁
