Flowers in the sunshine

Spending time in the glorious sunshine just now in Edinburgh and sketching in my garden.

This flower is a Scabiosa, which has beautiful purple ball shaped heads on single stalks. But to be honest we picked it from the garden centre as it sounded like a Harry Potter spell.

I thought I would draw this lying on the table which created stunning shadows, I was so caught by the shadows that I painting them first this time.

Purple, or bright lilac is a hard colour for me to create with my mini travel set of watercolours. I often have trouble and this time was no different and the finished sketch proved too dark.

It was a lovely afternoon drawing it though, and below you can see my video showing a timelapse of the process.
