Vikings!

Vikinga

Followers of EdinburghSketcher will know that I was at the National Museum of Scotland at the weekend to see their latest exhibition; Vikings!. I posted a couple of teasers photos of my sketching live on the day but have now put them altogether above.

I could of spent all day in the dark exhibition room, scribbling away at the brightly lit pieces of Viking art. The family and I went together and my wife and I hurriedly chased the toddlers from one exquisitely carved piece to the next. In a blur of wonder and and excitement we whizzed around in no time at all and back out into the main hall.

After lunch and with the kiddies tucked up and sleeping in their buggy Mrs Sketcher and I had time to revisit the show and take in the impressive pieces and a few facts about our distant cousins. Like the incredible detail achieved in their carvings and jewellery is in part thanks to rock crystals being used as magnifying aids. Amazing.

Vikings! is at the National Museum of Scotland until 12 May, click HERE for more information. Adult tickets cost £9, concessions £7.50, children aged 12-15 pay £6 with under-12s going free.
