Spend this September Bank Holiday sketching at Surgeons Hall Museums

watercolour-examplesThis coming Monday, 19th September I will be running two sketching workshops at the fascinating Surgeons Hall Museums in Edinburgh.

After sketching the exterior of the magnificent Surgeons Hall with a workshop in May I will be returning on Monday 19th September to capture some of the interesting exhibits inside the Edinburgh attraction, home to the largest and most historic collections of surgical pathology in the world, including bone and tissue specimens, artefacts and works of art.

I will be giving speed sketching tips and helping you capture your view in ink, charcoal and watercolour. All abilities are welcome for this relaxed and engaging workshop in interesting and stimulating surroundings.

Places are limited so book your place now at the link below.

Workshop 1:  Time: 10.30am – 1pm (2.5 hrs)  Price: £6 (£3.50 concession)

The bandages are off… at the Surgeons Hall Museum, Edinburgh

SurgeonsHall_BandagesTomorrow I will be sketching live as The Surgeons Hall reopens after a major refurbishment which has seen the Nicolson Street museum closed for over 12 months.

Having nipped in for a sneak preview a couple of weeks ago as the new space and exhibits began to take shape, I can’t wait to see the finished attraction open to the public. Highlights from the gruesome to fascinating tell the intriguing story of medical science in Scotland, and the world.

There are 1000’s of exhibits to inspire and capture the imagination, with state of the art exhibits which will educate, and make you so thankful we live in the 21st century!

Surgeons’ Hall Museums reopens to the public tomorrow,  the 24th September at 10am. Admission is £6 for adults, £3.50 for concessions.

Glorious sunshine on the Surgeons Hall, Edinburgh

SurgeonsHallThe edge of the stunning Surgeon’s Hall on Nicolson Street. Just opposite the Festival Theatre, which was where I sketched this image.

What a beautiful day in the capital. I hope you all got chance to soak up some vitamin D today. I noticed this narrow vision of the Surgeon’s Hall columns through two posters in the Festival Theatre cafe.

I couldn’t leave until I had caught the image in my pad, firstly with a fine liner pen and then a little watercolour on top. Thanks to the Th’eatery staff for not rushing me out and letting me stretch out my pot of tea 🙂
