WhereArtI #037

Hello and welcome to the weekly #WhereArtI quiz. All you have to do is name the Edinburgh landmark I have sketched above, the first three correct answers will receive points on the WhereArtI leaderboard.  Hello to Scotsman readers too who join our wee quiz on the first Monday of each month.

PLUS This week I have a bonus point up for grabs for anyone who can tell me the buildings previous name and which famous Scot was once a regular visitor…?

Clues to come for those who need them on facebook and twitter. Remember to include the hashtag #wherearti with your answers either below, on facebook or twitter and also to keep an eye on the ES facebook page for clues throughout the day.

Answers to come by this time tomorrow, and although for now the quiz is just for fun the first three correct answers will get a mention plus a link from my site if they make it onto the WhereArtI leaderboard.

For the time being WhereArtI? is just for fun, but if you would like your business to appear in the sketch, sponsor the quiz or supply a prize then please get in touch.

  1. Thanks again Ken, I’ve got that sorted now. Something to do with a Facebook update I think. Let me know if my posts disappear again.

  2. Hi ES
Something not happening with the facebook timeline ’cause your #wherearti didn’t appear! I have added your page to my list of interests, but nothing appeared this week until you announced the answer! – not that I would have answered correctly! I too know this as Rutherford’s Bar.

  3. Thanks Nadya you are correct, the sketched building was indeed once called ‘Rutherford’s Bar’ and it seems most Edinburgh folk still know it as that today although it is infact called The Hispaniola Restaurant. The old Rutherford’s Bar, Robert Louis Stevenson’s favourite drinking haunt, has been converted into a homage to the famous Scots authors most renowned novel; ‘Treasure Island’.

Only one person gave me the name Hispaniola today and so 3pts must go to @lemon_squeezy. The first to name the building as Rutherford’s Bar was @Grant___ (2pts) followed by @CityCentreBandB grabbing the final point.

Next Tuesday on the 13th November, Robert Louis Stevenson’s birthday, City of Literature and Edinburgh Napier University are organising ‘RLS Day’ – a day of events to celebrate the author. For more information about RLS day visit the City of Literature website HERE.
